Umpire Training

The ITA runs annual umpire training for colour belts and blackbelts from the age of 14 up to senior. Umpire training is conducted by the ITA umpire chairperson with assistance from some of Ireland’s top international umpires. ITA umpire training prepares participants to officiate at ITA tournaments in the role of Jury President, Centre Referee, umpire, computer assistant and ring assistant. Participants are also trained in the use of the Microvone electronic scoring system and the Sportdata system which are used at all ITA tournaments.

The ITA umpire pool continues to grow with more members gaining experience officiating in tournaments for juniors right up to senior international competitors. As well as the national competition team, international umpiring offers members a chance to develop their skills and represent their country at the highest level. The ITA aims to see more members complete international umpire courses with the ITF umpire committee and apply to officiate at the highest level at the World and European championships. For more information on umpire training visit our calendar of events or contact ITA Umpire Chairperson Mr Carl Smullen V .
