National Championships a Huge Success

The 19th National Championships "Irish Cup" was a huge success, with a record 830 competitors competing over the two days. On Saturday November 10th there were 300 athletes taking to the mats, with black belts vying for places on the national team as selections for the 2019 world championships were to be decided. There were many exciting bouts throughout the day and ITA's future looks very bright indeed. Black belts were also guaranteed multiple bouts as ITA use a repechage and pool system. Sport Ireland anti-doping staff were also present to conduct random tests and carried out their work in a very professional manner. On Sunday 530 competitors aged 13 and under took to the mats. The standard coming through accross all clubs was extremely impressive and speaks volumes about the level of progression and development right across the association. We would like to thank all clubs, instructors, masters, coaches, competitors, umpires, helpers, supporters and families for their support for what has been an extremely successful event. The atmosphere over the two days was something to be really proud of as an association. Congratulations to the top three clubs on the medal table with Rivervalley/Ashbourne in 1st place, Quin TKD Team in 2nd place and Cork ITA in 3rd place overall. The next championships is the ITA Munster Open, which takes place in Neptune Stadium on February 9th & 10th.
