ITA Continues to Grow

The ITA is continuing to grow in a sustainable way, with now over 100 clubs across the country as we expand into new areas all the time. The ITA board, in accordance with our constitution and bylaws approves new clubs opening internally where instructors have an ITF black belt, ITF plaque, have completed the ITF Taekwon-Do specific level 1 coaching course, have an up to date 1st aid certificate and a child safe guarding course and are a member in good standing. Those joining from outside the ITA must meet the same requirements however they have a probationary period under which to do so and are assigned a mentor to work with them.

With continued growth we do from time to time, lose some people along the way. Not everyone shares our vision of being the standard setter in terms of instructor qualifications in line with best practice and government policy, not everyone wishes to follow a model with structure, democratic and transparent procedures, annual elections of the board & committees, a clearly defined constitution, minimum ages for black belt, national black belt tests, a qualification system for national team, coach education courses and other instructor requirements & responsibilities, training for umpires, technical seminars, ITA national championships with over 800 competitors, IMAC membership etc.

In fact, some may be intimidated about being in ITA, or becoming irrelevent in a large organisation. We do not expect people to meet our requirements overnight, however, we can guarantee that those who choose to be part of our Taekwon-Do family will be welcomed, given opportunity to grow, learn, evolve and improve whatever their pathway may be; as a student, an athlete, an instructor, umpire or master. Those who are active and ambitious also have the opportunity to be elected to committee and board level and give back to improving the association and ITF Taekwon-Do in this country.

Our vision is for the long term, we produce and welcome instructors who share our vision and want to be the best they can be. We work with those coming from the outside to help them integrate and meet the requirements & standards in place. It is by no coincidence, that we have become the largest and most successful Taekwon-Do organisation in Ireland. For those with a shorter-term vision, we wish them well on their journey; our door remains open as we continue on our path in the pursuit of excellence and the development of ITF Taekwon-Do in Ireland.
